Swimming Data

As part of the National Curriculum 2014, all schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Currently at Poulton Lancelyn, our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children attend a two-week block course of swimming at the Oval Leisure Centre at different times in the year.

Since 2017, schools have been required to publish how many Year 6 pupils have met the National Curriculum requirements relating to swimming and water safety.

Overall Year 6 (2022) Swimming performance:

-          86% achieved NC

-          86% achieved 25m

-          89% achieved Range of Strokes

-          88% achieved Self Rescue
